I have been making bears since 1998.  I started by using a commercial pattern for a large sleeping bear that my daughter had asked me to make for her and haven't stopped since.   Although I have always sewn, I also always said I would NEVER sew with fur.  Hmmmm,  I guess one should never say never!!

I have always enjoyed sewing.  I started as a young girl making doll clothes, graduated to making my own clothes and once I had children made their clothes too. 

As our girls got older they took up horseback riding.  Soon we owned three Arabian horses and our week-ends were spent on the road travelling to competitons.  There is a class at Arabian horse shows called Native Costume in which both the horse and rider are dressed in very elaborate costumes so as you can guess that was my next sewing project. 

Once the girls left home my focus changed again to somewhat smaller projects - quilts and doll-making.  I guess bears were just waiting in the wings for me to discover.

A  friend of mine just happens to be a bear artist- Laura Pedosuk of Briar Rose - and she told me that if I wanted to sell bears I should learn how to design my own patterns.  Being the nice person that she is, she spent a day with me and showed me the basics of pattern-making and from there I just became addicted.

My bears now are all made from my own designs.  I use imported German mohair, imported French, Italian and Australian synthetic furs and of course, Canadian synthetics.  I also make bears from vintage furs, i.e. Grandma's old fur coat.  I have a large stock of vintage furs but I also do custom bears from client's fur coats.
